Dubai Design Week 2015 | Activities for the whole family


Held under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, the first ever Dubai Design Week starts tomorrow, October 26th until October 31st, 2015

The event  is also held in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3)  is also supported by both the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (DCAA), and the Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC). Dubai Design Week will host more than 60 events across the city, including an amazing selection of workshops, talks and installations.

Creating a point of time that encourages the growth of the design industry in Dubai, Dubai Design Week will not only establish the city as the regional capital for design, but also as a global meeting point for the international design community.

EXHIBITIONS

DOWNTOWN DESIGN

Downtown Design is the only platform in the Middle East for the region’s trade professionals to discover original, high quality international design.

When: October 27 to 30, 2015

Time: Tuesday – From 6pm to 9pm (Trade and Public visitors)

Wednesday and Thursday – From 1.30pm to 6pm (Trade visitors) & 6pm to 9pm (Public visitors)

Friday – From 1.30pm to 9pm (Trade and Public visitors)

Where: Dubai Design District (d3), Downtown Design tent

ARTISTS FOR CHANGE

Launching a new program of collaboration between UAE artists and underprivileged artisans in Afghanistan, the new programme called Artist’s For Change, aims to raise awareness of the plight of disadvantaged artisans, as well as promote their talent and capabilities.

When: October  26  to 31, 2015

Tuesday to Friday – From 9am to 9pm

Saturday – From 9am to 6pm

ABWAB: JORDAN

With play and imagination in mind, Jordan’s designers are drawing on the swing, or ‘murjeiha’, to represent their collective childhood.

When: October  26  to 31, 2015

Tuesday to Friday – From 9am to 9pm

Saturday – From 9am to 6pm

INSTALLATIONS

LOVE PROJECT

The Love Project is a study in design, science and technology that captures the emotions people feel in relating personal love stories to transform them into mandalas.

When: October 26 to 31, 2015

Time: Monday – From 5pm to 9pm

Tuesday-Friday – From 9am to 9pm

Saturday – From 9am to 6pm

SOUNDWEAVING

Hungarian design student Zsanett Szirmay and musician Bálint Tárkány-Kovács have turned their country’s traditional folk embroidery into melodies.

When: October 26 to 31, 2015

ROBOTIC PAINTING MACHINE EMOTION

The Robotic Painting project intends to establish a mutual relationship between human emotions and robotic machines.

When: October 26 to 31, 2015

RIPE DESIGN MARKET

Families can also enjoy the Ripe Design Market at D3 on Friday and Saturday – October 30 & 31. Some of the region’s best talent will be showcased in this pop-up creative market creatiang a beautiful atmosphere for alfresco eating, a relaxed day with family and friends, or a shopping spree.
