Top things to do this Eid Holiday in Dubai with the family – last minute curve ball of 9 days of no school.

It’s hard to believe that it’s time to plan another holiday with the children.  It has been confirmed that there is no school next week so here is a list of new attractions in Dubai to entertain children of all ages if you are not travelling like most.  Legoland is the attraction my children are most excited about set to open next month but in the meantime there is a long enough list, almost enough for one for each day if you have the energy.

Dubai Opera

We are thrilled that we can now take our children to a cultural centre to expose them to the performing arts such as opera and ballet.  If you have slightly older children you can take them next week to a choice of two ballets Coppelia or Giselle both performed by the Russian State Ballet and the Orchestra of Siberia, showing between the 15 – 17 September.

To book tickets or for more information go to

Privilee Membership Card – access to Dubai’s 5-star hotels’ facilities.

We have used our Privilee Card quite a bit this summer which proved useful as it gave us access to different hotels facilities, gyms and discounts off restaurants.  My children most enjoyed access to the Falcon Kids Club at the Sofitel on the Palm. We also spent time at the The Waldorf Astoria Pool and Spa this summer which kept the children cool over the summer. One bonus was to use our card to get a great 20% discount at the Waldorf Astoria Spa which uses great organic products such as Kate Middleton’s favourite brand, Neom.  Other hotels in the program include Grand Hyatt Dubai, Conrad Dubai, The Kempinski Palm and many more.  It is also great for #backtoschoolDubai when mums can use the Spas and gyms after drop at the cost of AED499 a month.

The Green Planet, City Walk 2 – Dubai’s rainforest

Our family has always wanted to meet a real sloth after watching the family movie, Zootopia.  Dubai’s children can see the sloth in City Walk’s new indoor tropical rainforest and interact with other tropical wildlife too.  The ‘bio-dome’ aims to recreate a tropical forest with plants and animals to educate children about the importance of protecting the world’s rainforests.

Mattel Play Town, City Walk 2

Our family had the opportunity to check out this other adventure playground for children in City Walk 2 that was a hit with my younger children.  They were thrilled to meet their favourite characters from Mattel including Bob the Builder, Angelina Ballerina, Barney, Fireman Sam and other popular Mattel characters. Top tip: after a morning at Mattel also check out Serephina’s for lunch just around the corner.  We think this place is great for children aged between 2 – 6 years.

The Outlet Village, Jebel Ali

Meraas, the developer behind City Walk Dubai and The Beach in JBR, has created a shopping metropolis of iconic brands retailing at discounted prices covering fashion and home interiors including DKNY, Giuseppe Zanotti, Ted baker, Tory Burch Tom Ford. It has been designed after the UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Gimignano in Italy.  It is located adjacent to Dubai Parks and Resorts in Jebel Ali.  The first phase will cover nearly 140,000 sq metres with additional phases adding up to 300,000 sq metres.  Opening hours are 10am – 10pm from Sunday to Wednesday and 10am to midnight on Thursday to Saturday.

IMG World of Adventures

The world’s largest indoor theme park opened its doors on 31 August this year.  The extended holiday would be a great time to check out the park’s new rides spanning 1.5 million square feet, equivalent to 28 football fields, IMG Worlds of Adventure is the first global theme park to bring international brands Marvel and Cartoon Network together, in addition to two proprietary brands IMG Boulevard and Lost Valley – Dinosaur Adventure. IMG Worlds of Adventure will also feature a unique array of roller coasters and attractions, complemented by 28 F&B and 25 retail outlets.

Xtreme Laser Tag at J3 Mall

The creators of Cheeky Monkeys have come up with the more ‘grown-up’ concept of a brilliant Laser Tag zone just next door to Cheeky Monkeys at the J3 Mall Branch.  My eldest, age 7, and his friends had a brilliant run around whilst my younger children still enjoyed the traditional soft play area in Cheeky Monkeys.  Each session cost AED50 per child for 15 minutes so we put them in for 30 minutes and they were exhausted but nevertheless thrilled with the new venue.

Check out their Facebook page for more details here.

Flip Out, Al Quoz (next to Speedex)

It’s the new trampoline park that has other activities like archery arcades and a mini-trampoline area for little ones who want to be with their older siblings.  To have children spanning different age groups this is perfect because it allows me to bring all my kids.  Opening hours are from 10am – 10pm whilst Thursday and Friday, they are opened from 10am – 12am.  Tickets cost AED70 and every additional hour is AED50.  Children 5 years and below pay AED60 and AED40 for every additional hour.  Archery Tag bookings are available for AED70 for an hour and AED50 for every additional hour.  It is best to purchase the combine package at AED120 for an hour of Flip Out and Archery giving you two hours of solid play.
